Giant Steel Bridge
Moves Across the UK to Eire - 28th January
2002
There’ll be an eye-catching shipment
making its way through the UK on a very special journey
to Ireland.
A massive steel transfer bridge designed for a water
treatment plant in Dublin is being transported by
Colchester based Wallis Shipping.
The steel construction is a vital component for the
site and was built in the UK. It will act as a linking
bridge between huge water tanks. The long journey
will start on 18th February in Ely and move through
England via the A10, A14, M6 and M56 eventually ending
up at the Port of Liverpool.
t will then cross by sea to Dublin Bay. Project Manager
For Wallis Shipping, Ms Mireille Fabre, said: “This
is one of our most ambitious undertakings yet. It
will involve a considerable amount of logistical work
and also co-ordination between a number of police
forces as the shipment moves through each county.
The cargo will receive a police escort all the way.”
The exact measurements for the steel transfer bridge
are 410 metres wide, 16.1 metres long and 3.23 metres
high. It will be transported on the back of an extendable
trailer.
