Suffolk Ski Team in
Britains' Top Ten - 21st February 2002
Three girls from Suffolk's leading
ski team have earned top marks in the British Schoolgirls
Championships held in France.
The three, Carly Phillips, Jenna Gregory and Claire
Shorrock are all members of the Viking Ski Team who
train at the Bourne Hill Ski centre and they came
9th out of 47 British teams competing on the slopes
of Flaine , France near the Swiss border.
Carly, who is a member of the British Childrens Team,
also came 1st in her 12-13 age group and Jenna came
8th in the 14 -15 age group. In each case 50 skiers
were competing.
Chairman of the Vikings Ski Team and Managing Director
of Wallis Shipping, one of the team's main sponsors,
Stuart Gregory, said: "We're absolutely delighted
with the result. The three girls have worked hard
and there was only 30 points between us in 9th place
and the team who finished 5th. We're already looking
forward to next year. Suffolk has a young ski team
here to be proud of and we are encouraging our youngsters
to compete on snow as well as continuing their regular
training on the ski slope in Ipswich."
