Past meets present
as Dominion’s latest website goes live
- 16th August 2004
A Colchester-based web design company has brought
the past into the present by designing a website for
a 700-year-old Livery company.
Dominion has created a unique website for The
Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers,
an organisation that dates back to 1322.
Dominion’s website design reflects the grandness
of the Armourer’s Hall, with its stunning blend
of 16 th and 17 th century armour and paintings. But
the past is cleverly mixed with the present in the
site’s contemporary structure, well-organised
information and secure members area including news
articles and details of company events.
Website project manager at Dominion, Carol Bell,
said: “Creating this on-line information source
not only allowed the Armourers and Brasiers to communicate
their long and distinguished history but also make
relevant their role in the nation today. The exciting
part was the realisation that they could communicate
with their members on-line.”
The Armourers’ Company was founded in 1322
and has occupied the same site in the City of London
since 1346. Joining with the Brasiers who worked in
copper and brass in 1708, the company is now one of
the leading UK charities supporting metallurgy and
materials science education from primary school to
postgraduate level.
