Wallis Shipping Cracks Open the Bubbly - 26th April 2005

A Colchester shipping firm celebrated with a champagne toast after one of its employees scored top marks in an international trade exam.

Penny Smith, of Wallis Shipping, was one of only six people in her class to pass the International Trade Operation and Procedures qualification. She did such a good job that she was awarded a bottle of champagne and has been entered into a national competition with the chance of winning a holiday to Spain.

The examination, for export and freight administrators, covers everything from the legal requirements of transporting cargo across the world to packing and marking cargo and ensuring payment.Penny said: “I was surprised and delighted to have won the prize for the best portfolio in the group. I worked really hard on the course and am proud to have been entered into the national competition too.”

Managing Director of Wallis Shipping, Stuart Gregory, said: “As a company we place great importance on having well trained and motivated staff. This course has given Penny a more thorough understanding of export documentation and customs procedures not to mention understanding of the logistics of moving cargo around the world. We are immensely proud of her achievement and will be backing her all the way at the national competition.”
