Colchester shipping firm jumping through hoops to meet Olympic deadline- 10 August 2008
Leading Colchester firm Wallis Shipping has jumped through Olympic hoops to deliver a wastewater screen to Beijing in time for the opening ceremony.
Wallis shipping, which specialises in global freight and logistics, has received an order in China for a wastewater screen that will serve the Olympic Village in Beijing.
It is designed to pass 1.16m3 of waste water a second and will ensure that no debris will be allowed into the water system and that athletes have clean facilities during their stay.
It will be situated in the centre of the proceedings, close to the Birds Nest – the main venue for the games and for both the opening and closing ceremonies - and the Water Cube – where the water events will be held.
The screen was air freighted by Wallis to meet its tight 16 week turn around deadline.
Wallis Shipping, which is celebrating 21 years in business, has had links with the Olympics in the past, and is in discussion over contracts much closer to home regarding the upcoming 2012 London Olympics.
Established in 1987 in Colchester, Wallis offers ‘traditional’ services including shipping, outsourcing and warehousing in addition to its own internet solutions company and a division focusing on sourcing products.
