British Ski Champion makes his world Championships debut thanks to Colchester shipping company - 27 Jan 2009

Colchester firm Wallis Shipping is buzzing with excitement this month as its ski protégé, Ed Drake, prepares to start his world cup career. 

Wallis Shipping which specialise in global freight and logistics, has backed the leading British ski member for several years, investing in both his travel and training expenses.

Although based at the British ski camp in Austria, Ed has very strong links with Colchester, his grandparents originate from the town and his father studied at the Colchester Institute.  

Drake, 23, who is the reigning overall British Ski Champion, improved his world ranking last year by 457 places to be placed 147th in the world, proving he has what it takes to conquer the next step and compete in this 2009 Val D’Isere World Championship.

Whilst there he will compete in the intense Super Giant Slalom and Downhill races, both races that he has successfully completed before and ones that helped him reach his champion title.
