Wallis Achieves Eleventh Hour Transit

Wallis Shipping has carried out a last minute project shipment to Asia using one of the world’s largest cargo aeroplanes. We worked with the client to find a solution to move over 100 tons of machinery to South Korea for them. To meet a contract deadline we had to find a transport solution that would get the cargo to its destination on time. In conjunction with the client we ruled out the idea of shipping it by sea as that would have taken four to five weeks.

At 100 tons, the cargo was far too big for a normal aircraft, so we used our years of experience and knowledge in the industry to source an Antonov 124 aircraft, loading the cargo onto the Antonov 124 at East Midlands Airport in Birmingham. This is one of the largest cargo aircraft in the world – there are only ever a few such aeroplanes in Europe at any one time.

We also helped the client arrange suitable packing for the machinery and arranged the trucking, crane hire and customs formalities to help the cargo leave the UK. We worked closely with the client on site before dispatch and made sure we were on hand at the airport to supervise the aircraft loading and security arrangements.

The shipment, which included two pieces weighing in at 30 tons each, was placed on the aircraft at East Midlands Airport and transported to South Korea in time for the client’s deadline.
